For all intents and purposes, I have completed my first day of NaNoWriMo with 5,130 words. Woot!
It's only eight o'clock, but I decided that I am done for the night because I have a sorority meeting to attend at nine, and I still have to complete my optical materials homework. I LOVE engineering school.
That's it for now -- my plan for tomorrow is get up and head to CAC early so I can get a few hundred more words in before class. Ambitious, I know, but it's worth a try.
And I'm out...

!!!
T-minus four hours and seventeen minutes... and I am nervous as hell. I tried doing my optical materials homework just now, but I can only think about beginning this novel at midnight tonight. I want to hit 10K tonight, and while I'm hopeful, I don't think it is going to happen.
I should stop being pessimistic. I'm going to hit 10K tonight/tomorrow. Thank goodness DST ends tonight -- I get an extra hour to play with tonight.
I've been toying with the idea of trying out some sort of polyphasic sleep schedule this month, but I don't think that that will work out too well, not with classes and work and exams this month and such.
I feel like I've lost sight of what my novel will be about -- once again, I'm having difficulty seeing the forest for the trees. I'm so focused on developing my characters right now that I feel like my actual plot has fallen by the wayside. I suppose I'll just write and write and write and see where it takes me. That's the entire point of this month, right?
There's a Rutgers thread on the NaNoWriMo site, and it would be really cool if we all could get together for a night in the Alcove. Hell, it would be pretty fantastic just to meet up with another person and have a write-off or something along those lines.
I tried out the Barnes and Noble in North Brunswick as a writing spot Thursday night, and I didn't like it. The seat was too low for one of the tables I was sitting at, and so I had a really hard time getting comfortable enough to type on my laptop. The place just wasn't ergonomically sound for an occasion like this one. They also don't train their staff very well on how to access the wireless provided. *sigh* Gotta find somewhere else besides Ops and my room to write in the middle of the night... even though it probably will be Ops. I mean, I know everybody there, there's usually at least one free station, internet access, and a couch! Who can beat that?
50,000 words is still pretty daunting. It's pretty daunting when combining that with school, exams, work and the like. *sigh*. Gotta make it all work, is all...

T-minus 13
Again, with the blogs. I swear I have more online journals than I can count... and I never stick with any of them.
However, I created this one with a very specific topic in mind: my first NaNoWriMo.
I found out about NaNoWriMo years ago, and told myself I would do it. Except I kept telling myself that I would do it later. I'm not sure what it was that told me that this was my year, but it is, and I can hardly contain my excitement.
I also enjoy documenting little things and going back to review them some months and years later, just to see what sort of mindset I was in at the time... to see if I've grown in the time I've spent away from said document... and on top of that, it's just sort of fun to relive these moments. You might say I live in the past, but to know where you're going, you've got know where you've come from.
But aside from all of that, this will be my NaNo blog. I will do my best to document each word count, each obstacle, each milestone, and every other feeling I can capture over the course of November.
I'm a full-time engineering student and I have a part-time job where I work anywhere from 25 to 35 hours per week. Second round of midterms usually take place in mid-November, but I will be prepared for that and my quota of 2,000 words per day.
I'm excited for this month -- I have a rough plot and a rough idea of who my characters are going to be. I just don't want that excitement to leave me, because I'm sort of good for losing interest in an activity rather quickly. At the very least, however, I've devoted enough hours to developing this plot and my characters -- hours that I probably should have been spending on homework -- to feel like I cannot give up now.
November is going to be fantastic.
